On October 16\u201318, 2014, a meeting titled “The Black Sea Cultural Port: Challenges and Prospects”<\/em> was held in Batumi. The event was organized within the framework of the international project “Limen: Cultural Ports from the Aegean to the Black Sea,”<\/em> which is funded under the European Union\u2019s Joint Operational Programme Black Sea Basin.<\/p>

The meeting was hosted by the project’s partner institution in Georgia\u2014the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation.<\/p>

The assembly brought together institutional stakeholders comprising the project’s Georgian domestic network, including:<\/p>

  • The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara<\/li>
  • The Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara<\/li>
  • The City Hall of Batumi<\/li>
  • The Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency of Adjara<\/li>
  • The Niko Berdzenishvili Institute of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University<\/li>
  • The Batumi Art Teaching University<\/li>
  • The Batumi Archaeological Museum<\/li>
  • The Khariton Akhvlediani Adjara Museum<\/li>
  • The Port of Batumi<\/li><\/ul>

    During the sessions, key speakers (Mariam Didebulidze, David Khoshtaria, and Giorgi Tughushi) presented papers outlining the overarching goals and objectives of the Limen<\/em> project, alongside critical matters relating to the sustainable development of cultural tourism in Georgia. The programmatic themes addressed included: the European Union’s “European Capital of Culture” initiative; national tourism and cultural tourism policies in Georgia; strategic outlooks for sustainable and cultural tourism; and heritage management in relation to cultural tourism (incorporating past experiences, systemic issues, and future benchmarks).<\/p>

    The presented topics engaged the participants in constructive analysis, sparking an active discussion regarding the challenges confronting the growth of cultural tourism. The session concluded with the formulation of strategic action plans and future outlooks.<\/p>

    Reflecting the success of the meeting, several new participating organizations expressed their formal intent to join the project\u2019s Georgian domestic network.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
