From 29 September to 1 October 2011, the Goethe-Institut in Tbilisi hosted the international conference Figure and Ornament: Aesthetics, Art, and Architecture in the Caucasus Region from 400 to 1650<\/em><\/strong>. The conference was organized by the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation, in collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz and the University of Basel. The event was made possible through the financial support of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation and the Voluntary Academic Society of Basel (Freiwillige Akademische Gesellschaft Basel<\/em>).<\/p>

The conference focused on the diverse relationships between figure and ornament in the art of the Caucasus from the Early Christian period to the seventeenth century. The geographical scope of the theme encompassed Georgia, Armenia, Caucasian Albania\/Azerbaijan, Eastern Anatolia, and Northern Iran.<\/p>

Thirty scholars participated in the conference, including ten from Georgia and twenty representing various European countries.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
