Art historian, prominent scholar of Georgian architecture, pedagogue, and public figure. Merited Worker of Art of Georgia (1954). He graduated from the Georgian Construction Institute in 1932. From 1936 he worked in the \u201cMetekhi\u201d department of the Art Museum, and in 1941\u20131986 he served as a researcher at the Institute of Georgian Art History. From 1954 to 1986 he was Chair of the Department of Art History and Theory at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts and a professor there. His scholarly interests encompassed medieval ecclesiastical and secular architecture, as well as the work of 20th-century Georgian artists.<\/p>

L. Rcheulishvili was actively engaged in the protection of cultural monuments. He made particularly significant contributions to the measurement and documentation of architectural heritage. He devoted great attention to the study of Georgian secular architecture. Leo Rcheulishvili was among those who established and strengthened the scholarly and ethical traditions of the Institute.<\/p>
