In 2012, the Centre began the implementation of an international project: The international project – “OLKAS. From the Aegean to the Black Sea – Medieval Ports in the Maritime Routes of the East” (2012–2013; scientific and research institutions from Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, and Ukraine, along with the G. Chubinashvili National Research Centre, participate in the project). In 2011, the project secured a grant in the first call for proposals conducted within the framework of the Black Sea Basin Cross-Border Cooperation Programme (Black Sea Joint Operational Programme). The lead organization is the European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments in Thessaloniki. The participants in the project from the G. Chubinashvili National Research Centre are: D. Khoshtaria (Manager), K. Mikeladze (Academic Director), N. Natsvlishvili, and I. Mania. Within the framework of the project in 2012, the team members completed the tasks outlined by the project (preparation of materials for the database), undertook a research trip to Batumi, and participated in a workshop (Thessaloniki) and a conference (Chisinau).
