Art historian; Doctor of Art Studies; researcher of medieval Georgian architecture and woodcarving, as well as modern architecture and sculpture; active participant and consultant in the preservation and restoration of monuments.
He received his higher education at the Georgian Construction Institute. In 1941 he completed postgraduate studies in art history at Tbilisi State University. For several years he worked as an architect in design and construction organizations, and later as a research fellow at the Vardzia Museum-Reserve.
From 1945 onward, he served as a researcher at the Institute of Georgian Art History. He published numerous noteworthy monographs. Early in his career, he participated in architectural measurement expeditions in various regions of Georgia. He surveyed dozens of important structures (including the cathedrals of Svetitskhoveli, Ruisi, Gudarekhi, Bedia, Samtavisi, Samshvilde, and others). N. Chubinashvili also made significant contributions to the preservation and restoration of Georgian architectural monuments, taking part in the uncovering and restoration of several ancient churches (including the Tsilkani Cathedral, Ikvi, and others).
