    International Conference

    International Interdisciplinary Conference: Memory, Art, and Art History in the Quest for Identity

    On 27–28 October 2011, the conference hall of the Goethe-Institut hosted an international interdisciplinary conference titled Memory, Art, and Art History in the Quest for Identity, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the George Chubinashvili Institute of Georgian Art History.

    The conference was organized within the framework of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the George Chubinashvili Centre, with the support of the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation, the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, the Embassy of the United States, and the Goethe-Institut Georgia.

    Thirty-two scholars participated in the conference. Alongside Georgian researchers, the event featured contributions from American and Russian academics, including: Mary Kay Judy, independent expert in modern and contemporary architecture, Architectural and Cultural Heritage Conservation Association, USA; Talinn Grigor, Brandeis University, USA; Peter Rollberg, George Washington University, USA; Svetlana Khromchenko, State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow, Russia; and Nina Getashvili, Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, Russia.
