On December 8, 2010, a meeting was held at the National Palace of Children and Youth of Georgia with representatives of the G. Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation, who presented the students with educational brochures as gifts: Rules of Conduct at Monuments for Youths and Recommendations for Heritage Lovers, or How to Treat Monuments.
The meeting was attended by Besarion Matsaberidze, Head of the Cultural Heritage Department of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia.
The brochures were prepared at the G. Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation and printed with funding from the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia. The authors are Doctors of Art History: Lali Andronikashvili, Mariam Didebulidze, and Dimitri Tumanishvili. The illustrator is Dimitri Antadze.
The purpose of publishing the presented brochures is to explain to youths how they can contribute to the study and preservation of their country’s cultural heritage.
The brochure will enable young people to guide their activities correctly; they may discover many unknown monuments within their own regions, a task for which the advice provided in the brochure will prove useful. Offering guidance to upper-grade students regarding the registration of monuments (particularly unknown ones) within their own region or neighborhood is of particular relevance: this includes sketching, photographing, copying and recording inscriptions, describing the monument, and collecting local oral traditions or other types of information. The brochures are being distributed in schools and art institutions both in Tbilisi and across various regions.
