By chubinaengadmin on May 25, 2012

In 2012, work continued on a joint Georgian-Japanese research project initiated during the 2010–2011 period. In this collaborative endeavour, the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre partners with the Tokyo Institute of Technology. The project aims to investigate the construction techniques, structural stability, and seismic resistance of medieval Georgian architectural monuments utilizing state-of-the-art technical equipment. The project is led by Shiro Sasano, Head of the Department of Built Environment at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. On behalf of the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre, the project is coordinated by David Khoshtaria, Head of the Department of Ancient and Medieval Art.

The third phase of the research was conducted between 26 June and 4 July 2012, focusing on photogrammetric analysis and the assessment of structural seismic resistance using specialized sensors. The joint research team included the following members from the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre: David Chikhladze, Mariam Gabashvili, Giorgi Patashuri, Nino Tsitsishvili, Nato Chitishvili, Tamar Dadiani, Irina Mania, and Eter Edisherashvili. The fieldwork was carried out across several historic sites, including Mtskheta, Tsromi, Ubisa, Samtavisi, Tsinarekhi, Kintsvisi, Shatili, and Mutso.
