On February 7, marking the birthday of Sergo Kobuladze—a distinguished figure of 20th-century Georgian visual arts—the exhibition Italy 1956: Photographer Sergo Kobuladze opened at the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation.
The event was opened by Mariam Gachechiladze, Acting Director of the Chubinashvili Centre. Massimiliano D’Antuono, the Ambassador of Italy to Georgia, also addressed the public, expressing his gratitude to the Chubinashvili Centre for organizing and realizing the exhibition.
The exhibition features photographs of Italian cities captured by Sergo Kobuladze during his participation in the 28th Venice Biennale in 1956. This photographic collection is preserved in the archives of the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre.
The pieces selected for this exposition offer the public a rare glimpse into 1950s Italy through the observant lens of an artist traveling outside the Soviet Union for the first time. Simultaneously, the exhibition invites viewers to discover Sergo Kobuladze’s artistic vision expressed through the medium of photography.
