The selection competition for young graphic artists, announced for the creation of a newly illustrated volume of Akaki Tsereteli’s works, has successfully concluded. The project is being implemented by the G. Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation, with the structural support of the Ministry of Culture and the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO. Over the course of the competition, the necessity for an unscheduled second round emerged. The four shortlisted participants were assigned an additional task, which required them to create works of identical dimensions utilizing the exact same artistic technique.
These strict comparative criteria placed the participants under completely equal conditions, allowing their individual technical capabilities to be evaluated with maximum clarity. Based on the outcomes of the second round, two winners were selected to execute the final illustrations for the publication.
The chosen graphic artists are: Tedo Rekhviashvili and Mirian Chankvetadze.
Accordingly, the initial phase of the project The Newly Illustrated Collection of Akaki Tsereteli has drawn to a close. With the artists officially selected, work will now commence on the direct illustration of the anthology.
The final book launch will be hosted in the autumn, where this new commemorative jubilee edition of Akaki Tsereteli’s literary works, realized within the scope of the project, will be officially presented to the public.
