Within the framework of a joint research project, the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre and the Tokyo Institute of Technology organized the First Georgian-Japanese Workshop of Architectural and Urban Historians. The event was held at the Japan Centre of the Institute of Oriental Studies at Ilia State University.
The workshop was opened by Mariam Didebulidze, Director of the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre; Giorgi Sanikidze, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies; and Professor Shiro Sasano of the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Two researchers from the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre presented papers at the workshop: Natia Natsvlishvili’s presentation focused on Catholic churches in Georgia, while Irina Mania reviewed the caravanserais of Tbilisi.
The second workshop is scheduled to be held in Tokyo in 2013.
