On February 17–20, 2011, a three-day expedition to historical Tao-Klarjeti was organized by the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia. Experts – including art historians, historians, architects, structural engineers, and journalists – assessed the monuments of Georgian architecture on-site.
Due to heavy snowfall, it was only possible to inspect the churches of Oshki and Ishkhani. These unique cathedrals are in a deplorable condition, and urgent measures must be taken to save them. David Khoshtaria, Head of the Ancient and Medieval Georgian Art Department at the G. Chubinashvili National Research Centre, participated in the expedition along with others.
