The International Conference “Identity and Spirit of Old Tbilisi” was held in Tbilisi at the “Old Tbilisi” Hotel on June 4–6, 2010.
Mariam Didebulidze, Director of the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre, delivered the opening address. Researchers of the Centre actively participated in the conference, presenting the following papers:
Tbilisi – A Unique System of Courtyard Houses by Maia Mania, Architectural Historian, PhD in Art History and Theory;
The Eternal and Unrepeatable Essence of Tbilisi by Manana Suramelashvili, Architectural Historian, PhD in Art History and Theory;
The “Zemel” Reconstruction Project by Lali Andronikashvili, PhD in Art History and Theory.
The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Commission.
“The conference is part of the project ‘Preserving Urban Heritage: Identity and Spirit of Old Tbilisi,’ which is being implemented by the British Council, the Goethe-Institut, the Directorate for Cultural Heritage of Norway (Riksantikvaren), the International Centre for Arts and Culture ‘Istoriali,’ and the Georgian National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS Georgia).”
